VICENZA, Italy -- U.S. and Italian army senior leaders from U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa and U.S. Army Garrison Italy conducted a staff ride visit to the World War I Monte Grappa battlefield in Veneto, Italy, May 24. The event included a wreath-laying ceremony at the Military Memorial of Monte Grappa in Crespano del Grappa.

In his remarks, Col. Michele Biasiutti, the USAG Italy senior Italian officer, noted that this event marked the first time since 1961 that a U.S. general officer has laid a wreath at the monument. The event increased leaders’ knowledge of a significant site in Italy’s WWI defense against advancing Austrian troops, and strengthened the U.S. Army’s longstanding alliance with Italy.
