Military planners for U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa returned to Georgia Dec. 6-10 for the African Land Forces Summit main planning event. The planning event is part of ongoing preparation for ALFS, which is scheduled to take place in March.

Military planners for U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa, visited several sites in Georgia Oct. 18-22, 2021 for the African Land Forces Summit (ALFS) initial planning event. The planning event is part of ongoing preparation for ALFS, which is scheduled to take place in March, 2022.

Since 2010, the African Land Forces Summit has been of great importance in building partnerships with African Land Force chiefs and discuss security concerns. This year, taking into consideration travel limitations and the safety of country delegations, the U.S. Army is utilizing a widely accepted communication technology to host the ninth annual ALFS on May 19. Gathered together into smaller, regionally focused groups, land force leaders – including land chiefs and senior enlisted leaders – from across the African continent will discuss challenges and opportunities focused on this year’s ALFS theme: “Maintaining Security in a Degraded Environment.”

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia – Military leaders from 42 African countries, the U.S. Army, state partnership program leaders, allies and global partners, and diplomatic representatives from across the world gathered to discuss and develop cooperative security solutions during the 8th African Land Forces Summit, held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Feb. 18-21.

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia - Ethiopian National Defense Force members and a U.S. Army Africa Soldier discuss layout details during their week of a main planning event in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on October 23. The week consists of planning out details for the ENDF and USARAF co-hosted African Land Forces Summit to be held in the city in February 2020. ALFS 2020 is the eighth annual summit bringing leaders together across the continent with the upcoming theme of "Tomorrow's Security Demands Leadership Today."
